What are content pillars, and how many do you actually need?

A content pillar is a recurring theme you post about, nothing more mysterious than that. The problem it actually solves is the blank-page moment every week where you're trying to invent a brand-new idea from nothing, instead of just picking from a short, known list.
Most small brands only need three to five. Fewer than that and the feed starts feeling repetitive fast; more than that and a small team quietly stops being able to keep all of them fed with real content, and the least interesting ones just fade out unannounced.
A workable set usually mixes what you're consistently able to show with what your audience actually responds to β a typical small-brand combination is product spotlights, behind-the-scenes or process, real results or outcomes, and a straightforward how-to or tip. The one rule worth following: don't add a pillar nobody on the team can realistically keep feeding past the first month.
Once the pillars are set, planning a week of content stops being "what do I post" and becomes "whose turn is it" β a much smaller decision, and one that naturally keeps the feed varied instead of accidentally repetitive.
It's also deliberately how Grafix's own onboarding works: instead of a blank content field, a new brand picks from a small starter set of pillars, and generation starts from there rather than from nothing.
