TikTok and Reels for small business: is short-form video worth it?

5 min read Β· Published August 28, 2026

TikTok and Instagram Reels get more organic reach right now than almost any static feed post, mostly because both platforms' algorithms actively push short video to non-followers in a way feed posts rarely get. That's the real reason it keeps coming up β€” not because video is inherently better content, but because the distribution is stacked in its favor.

"Post video" is still the wrong first question, though. Nobody has to be on camera personally for this to work. Faceless formats perform perfectly well: text-on-screen tips, product close-ups, a quick before-and-after, a process shot with captions doing the talking. What actually matters is a hook in the first second or two and something that reads as real rather than overproduced β€” a slightly rough clip that gets to the point beats a polished one that takes five seconds to explain what it's even about.

The lowest-effort entry point is repurposing, not filming something new every time. A photo-led idea that would've been a single feed post can become a short slideshow of two or three stills with text overlay and a trending sound β€” genuinely quick to put together, and a reasonable way to test the format before committing to real filming.

One platform note worth knowing before spreading effort thin: TikTok leans harder toward pure discovery, reaching people who've never heard of the account; Instagram Reels tends to lean more on an existing follower base. Picking one to focus on first, seeing where traction actually shows up, and doubling down there beats posting thin, inconsistent content on both from day one.

Whatever ends up on camera, the account still needs to look like one brand β€” the same colors, type, and voice as everything else being posted. That's where Grafix fits in even though it doesn't generate video: it builds the on-brand 9:16 cover graphics, story-format visuals, and captions that go alongside a Reel or TikTok, so a video post doesn't look like it came from a different account than the feed post next to it.
